Method
How these are made. SITREPs are LLM-generated and automated: produced by an AI model from the pipeline's open-source data and published. They are leads, not findings. Analyses are different: written by a human and signed by their author.
How the pipeline works and what it can and cannot see.
Sources
- Sentinel-2 L2A optical, 10 m (Copernicus, via Element 84 Earth Search).
- Sentinel-1 RTC radar, 10 m — sees through cloud and at night (via Microsoft Planetary Computer).
- Landsat 8/9 optical, 30 m.
- NASA FIRMS thermal detections — VIIRS (375 m) on three satellites and MODIS (1 km).
Cadence
- Imagery pickup once a day (GitHub Actions; run time varies).
- Thermal watch every 3 hours.
- SITREPs are LLM-generated and automated, and numbered. The model checks each finding against open news reporting and tags it CORRELATED PARTIAL NOT IN NEWS NOTHING TO MATCH.
- Analyses are written by a human and signed by their author.
Limits
- 10 m imagery shows ships, large aircraft, burn scars and construction — not vehicle or aircraft types.
- Thermal detections cannot tell a strike from a brush fire, gas flare or burning waste.
- Watch boxes are rectangles and can include neighbouring territory.
- Absence of a news match is not proof nothing happened; absence of a detection is not proof nothing burned.
